Financial Aid

Each year in April, St. Al's is able to offer several scholarships to Catholic students who are enrolled full-time at Michigan Tech. Such students must be able to demonstrate interest in St. Albert the Great University Parish Catholic Campus Ministry through active involvement in parish worship, activities and ministries while also demonstrating the ability to complete a program of study at MTU. The student's witness to Christ and their financial need are taken into consideration when the scholarships are awarded.

The scholarships that are normally awarded range in value from $500 to $1,000. Normally eight (8) scholarships are awarded. Three families make these scholarships available each year. The family of the late Kevin Crowley - an MTU student who died in a car accident during Thanksgiving vacation in 1991 - regularly makes several scholarships available in memory of Kevin. Mr. Frank Bizjak of Redondo Beach, California, a 1956 MTU alum, has established a scholarship fund in memory Frederic Baraga, the first bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Marquette. This fund usually provides for two to three scholarships each year. Another family, who chooses to remain anonymous, provides one scholarship each year.

Scholarship applications are made available in early February at the parish office. One letter of recommendation from an MTU faculty or staff member must accompany each application submitted. Only one completed application is needed to make a student eligible for each of the scholarships that will be awarded. The application deadline is the last monday of March.
